A plush bird with a catnip pouch inside that flaps and chirps when your cat touches it — no need to keep pressing a button or waving it around yourself. Attach it to a wand for interactive play, or leave it out for your cat to bat and pounce on solo.

Specifications

  • Size: Approx. 17 cm (6.7 in) — varies slightly by bird style
  • Material: Plush
  • Power: 1 lithium-ion battery, included — USB rechargeable
  • Trigger: Touch/motion activated — flaps and chirps on contact, stays quiet and still otherwise to save battery
  • Includes: Catnip pouch inside the body
  • Attachment: Hanging loop, works with a cat wand (wand not included)
  • Cleaning: Electronic mechanism detaches from the plush shell
  • Styles: Blue Robin, Owl, Male Sandpiper, Princess Sandpiper, Red Parrot, Snowy Owl, Sparrow

Good to know

Weight and exact dimensions vary a little between bird styles (this general design typically runs around 3–4 oz), so treat the size above as a close estimate rather than an exact figure for every style.

This toy has a lithium-ion battery and electronics inside a plush shell. Supervise the first few play sessions to see how your cat interacts with it — a cat who tends to chew through toys rather than bat at them isn't a good match for anything with an internal battery compartment, even though the mechanism detaches for cleaning.

What it isn't

A substitute for active play with you — it's a supplement for solo moments, not a replacement for the attention that actually tires out and bonds with a cat.

my orange boy loves it

my cat absolutely loves it!tbh i dont charge it, i just let him play with it whenever he wants to. he is very independent in that regard and loves to play with me but also can just entertain himself. he has a high hunting instinct. so, in my case it also works great without even charging it. the weight of it and texture makes it feel realistic enough for him to carry and feel like he is hunting real prey. its truly his favorite toy and he has a lot of toys.

Love these! (and kitty does, too!!)

I purchased the Pippin a couple years ago. My kitty-baby loved it! and she is hard to buy for lol. She much prefers paper/plastic shopping bags and the cardboard boxes that all her toys come packed in. She also loves my hair ties. You'd think I had a toddler at home. I have little boxes with all sorts of kitty toys and trinkets. I pull them out. Toss them around. Little toys all over the floor. Hardly even a glance from her. Ha.But these!!! She loves them! I was so glad to find something she'll actually play with. She doesn't need to be prompted either. I often hear this little thing chirping and shaking around when I'm in another room. I peak around the corner to find kitty-baby happily rolling around and playing. She hooks it with her claws and tosses it around with ease, goes crazy tearing at it with her rear legs, rolls around on the floor with it.It's durable. She tears holes in all her bedding, but the original one of these we had has definitely withstood her ruthless assaults. It's not crazy loud. It's motion activated. The sound/shake is long enough to keep her intrigued. Not so long that it drives me nuts. The catnip is also great. She goes crazy for it. Actually, when this one arrived I told my bf he could take it out and charge it up. (He enjoys charging new items lmao) Kitty was in a window in another room. He opens it up, plugs it in, and a minute later she's in the middle of the living room with her nose in the air.Sniffing.Sniff. Sniff. Sniff. Like a bloodhound. Lolol So cute! And she did track it down on top of our corner table. 😂 pulled it right down to the floor. 👌 That's exactly what I want to see when I get her a toy!! But I've only ever seen her respond like that to this toy. It's easily washable. I've not washed this new one yet, but I did wash the previous one multiple times. Undo the velcro. Remove the battery pack and "wings". Wash. Reassemble. The battery charges quickly and seems to last very long.I only ordered this new one because I saw it in my purchase history and realized I hadn't seen her Pippin recently. 🤔 Thought it would be cute to have the two.I definitely recommend. They're both cute (the Pippin and the owl) I prefer the owl, but my kit-kat doesn't seem to have a preference. She loves them both.

The most adorable little bird!

When I opened the package I couldn't believe how soft and adorable this little Sandpiper cat toy is. It is well made with attention to detail, and it should last a long time. I love it, but my cat loves it even more! It makes cute sounds, flaps its wings, and with the flapping movement even moves around a little on our laminate floor. We have an older cat we adopted years ago, and his previous person had him declawed sadly. Because of that our boy is limited with the things he can play with. Well, this little bird is a big hit! He took to it right away, carefully picking it up between his paws and licking it. He has a few more favorites in addition to the Sandpiper and we know they make him happy, and that in turn makes us happy.

Doesn't "hoot"

I have others of the flapping toys, the cats seem to like them more than the fish. the duck quacks, the starling and sandpiper sound the same, the owl which is about the same size as the sand piper (maybe a little larger) is shaped differently, but tweets like the last two, kinda disappointing, I thought it would sound like a (stereotypical) owl.Charges like the others with a usb cable, wings flap, good battery life

This is SUCH a good toy all the way around! I'm bummed I didn't buy the 2 pack!

Not only does my 4 month old cat, Squirt, absolutely LOVE this toy(he's been stalking/playing with it since we received it and i turned it on)... but the humans in the house love it also. One of the BEST things is the sound level. It's loud enough to hear, but not deafening or so loud that it drives you nuts after 10 minutes of it being on. It stays in the background, instead of constantly yelling at you, and reminding you that its there chirping... You can easily have a conversation or watch TV while the cat is in the background playing and hunting his/her heart out, and not have to actively block out the chirping coming from the toy so you don't go mad. 🙃Something else that we love is that it is rechargeable, and comes with a charging cord(you need to have a 5V charging block already, as it doesn't come with one, but that was no problem for us.. just a regular phone charging block works perfectly fine)We also like that it doesn't constantly chirp. The cat has to actively be playing with it in order for it to continue chirping. And even if the cat is actively playing with it, it will not chirp constantly. It takes little 15-30 second breaks after a few chirps. From what I can tell so far, there is no method to the chirping. Which is good. Bc I've found, with my cat atleast, if there's a pattern/repetition to a toy, he'll lose interest a lot sooner and opposed to it randomly going off.I thought the bird was kinda big at first, but my 4 month old cat proved me wrong. He bats it around like Ragnar Lothbrok, and teaches it who's boss all the time. He has no problem picking it up in his mouth either. The fabric it's made of is soft and fuzzy, but doesn't leave fluff balls anywhere. So I feel like that is good bc you don't have to worry about your cat eating any fabric and getting blocked up/impacted.The only thing I will mention that I THINK could be a problem in the future, is the little feet, and the feathers on the birds bum. My cat is an absolute viking. Yes, even at 4 months old. He is such a little destructor. Already, I've noticed he's taken a fancy to biting and chewing on the legs as well as the feathers. I imagine overtime they will wear out and I might end up having to use scissors to take off any parts that become a potential issue. Again, the only 2 things I believe could create a problem like this are the feet and the feathers. But it hasn't caused any issues in the hour since it's been home yet lol. I will update this review if anything changes.Overall, I'm thrilled all around with this purchase. This cat has been giving us a run for our money, and it's hard to keep him entertained 24/7. This toy has helped tremendously since its been here, and we will keep it in rotation with all the other toys we've got for him. If need be, in the future I will definitely purchase the bird duo if this guy ever dies on us.Much appreciation from 2 kitten parents that are lacking sleep, and the time to do anything other than keep a kitten entertained😅

ugliest tomato plant ever (but it just might work!)

have been battling a couple of deer who won’t be persuaded to eat countless other tasty greens all over the property - it’s the tomato plant, practically ON my front porch, that they want! Ma’am Deer and her sister, Mom Deer, do not care that there are 2 barking dogs just feet away (behind the glass door), nor do they care if I am out in the yard talking to them…they are VERY comfortable with the surroundings, so I need something to change things up and give them a startle when they start nibbling the tomato plant. Only giving 4 stars for now, but if it gets triggered by them easily enough and does the trick, I’ll be back to say more! Really like that the fish “skin” is washable - especially since I have it outside. I bring it in if calling for rain. Seems fairly sensitive to touch, but I can’t always trigger it, so I am a bit concerned that it works when it’s necessary. But when it does activate, it gives a good long floppy show. One of my dogs was grabbing at the fins and trying to run off with it, the other content to just be slapped in the face with the flapping tail…then both wondering why mommy was hanging toys out on the tomato plant! I have it hung where I think the deer noses are most likely to be poking, and it’s just low enough to also hit part of the short metal trellis underneath, so that adds to the noise/startle factor. If it lasts the season and manages to keep the deer away, it will be well worth it!

It's Fun but Limited

I have a cat who is a little over one year old. I thought this would be perfect for her. And she did love it for about a half an hour. The toy does what it says, it flaps and it peeps (not overly loudly thankfully) but it doesn't move around more than a little bit when the wings flap. As a result it doesn't hold the cat's interest as well as I had hoped/expected from the reviews I read. I gave it 4 stars because it does do exactly as is advertised and the cat did like it. It is definitely sturdy - during that play session she threw it around, batted it across the floor and attacked it multiple times - it did not lose a single feather. I think one thing might be the size. It's pretty large - much larger than a real bird. It just doesn't convince my cat its prey so after that first half hour she has basically ignored it.

Adorable but non functioning

Update: My mostly outdoor cat has the magic touch with Mr. Hoot and has had 10 minutes of fun before his nap. I bought the toy for my sedentary 2 indoor cats who apparently don't have the prey instinct or skills.Adorable owl but touch motion is hard for my indoor cats. My cat was thrilled at first touch but he can't get it to activate anymore. I can sometimes activate it for him if I poke around a lot which defeats the purpose. I am keeping it because it is so adorable and so soft, it made me adopt it. I named him Mr. Hoot!

Kitties LOVE this!!!

Have 5 kittens and they all go nuts over this toy. It's so cute! It charges so no batteries to buy. I ended up buying a second one so more of them can play at the same time. Great toy!!!
